Thanks to funding from Bedford Borough Council and Central Bedfordshire Council we are able to provide a wide ranging support package including a series of 12 wellbeing workshops.

Our Community Wellbeing and Creative Wellbeing Projects are full of practical support and include:

The main element of the programme is a series of wellbeing workshops being held at three locations: Dunstable, Bedford and in Leighton Buzzard.
Learn techniques and skills that will help you to feel healthy, happy and able to cope.

Creative Wellbeing course

A short course that uses art as a focus for wellbeing. Using a variety of mindful
art techniques taught over the length of this 30 hour course you will:

  • Learn to use art as a focus for wellbeing
  • To carry out mindful art techniques
  • Create a piece of art that can be taken home or displayed in The
    Disability Resource Centre
  • To identify the positive impact of art on wellbeing.

As well as developing art techniques the course will provide opportunities for
learners to:

  • Working as part of a collaborative group
  • Socialise with new people
  • Learn or use a new skills
  • Experiment with a range of techniques that involve active learning
  • Understand the benefit that this subject and taking part in it has on
    health and wellbeing

Community Wellbeing Programme:

Twelve workshops based on the NHS five steps to mental wellbeing

We have designed the wellbeing workshop programmes to be inline with the NHS mental wellbeing principles which are:

  • Connecting people - bringing people together
  • Being active – improving awareness of healthy lifestyles
  • Keep learning - learning new skills
  • Give to others - building new social and peer networks
  • Be mindful – awareness of present moment

Different techniques to aid wellbeing will include three sessions for art, mindfulness, healthy lifestyles and empowerment. We'll be running the workshops at different locations across Central Bedfordshire including at The Disability Resource Centre in Dunstable, in Leighton Buzzard and also in Bedford.

The workshops will help you to;

  • learn to use art as a technique for relaxation
  • have an understanding of the benefits of mindfulness
  • learn how to manage stress 
  • identify healthier lifestyle options

Creative Wellbeing Programme

Learners will develop creative skills embracing the NHS 5 steps for wellbeing. You will learn new skills and techniques whilst exploring identity, expression and mood.

Sessions include Zentangle, stone painting and aboriginal art, enabling you to understand the positive impact of art on wellbeing.

Empowerment

This workshop will help you to understand the types of empowerment exercises. By then looking at different techniques to help you feel more confident you will then begin to feel more empowered, which will help improve your general wellbeing.
Relaxation techniques

You will learn about different relaxation techniques and find the right one to suit you. Relaxation techniques are a great way to help with stress management and so should help you to start de-stressing your life.
Stress management
Date TBC
Full of useful and new stress management techniques this workshop will guide you to be able to use them on a daily basis. We’ll also give you an understanding of the impact of stress on your personal health.
Introduction to Meditation

This introductory workshop will see you learning and practicing different meditation techniques. You will look at how you feel before and after to see which techniques work best for you and how you can incorporate this into your daily life.
Change management
Date TBC
You will learn to understand your personal reactions to changes and look at the ‘change curve’. It will help you with barriers that stop you from embracing changes. You will finish by looking at strategies to reduce your fears.

Mindfulness

This workshop will help you to develop a positive mind set and develop coping strategies which will help with increasing our state of wellbeing. You will also experience a practical demonstration of different mindfulness theories.

Pattern art



Zentangle relaxing art
Date TBC
An art workshop that will introduce you to Zentangle art, which is a form of art that can help you to relax. You will produce simple artistic designs and use repetitive steps to aid relaxation.
Aboriginal art styles
Date TBC
We’ll look at the different Aboriginal styles of art work which is most commonly described as ‘dot painting’. You will be guided on how this form of art can also help with relaxation and will put in practice different forms of painting and art.
Fitness fears

We will help you to share your fears and concerns about being more active and then be guided to put together an action plan to help you overcome these fears.
Stone painting
Date TBC
This workshop will help you use art to help you to focus and become a source of relaxation and fun. You will look at a variety of techniques to produce ‘stone art’.
Fitness & exercise

This workshop will help you to understand the potential drawbacks of exercise but also the physical and mental benefits of exercise. You will put together an action plan to help you incorporate more exercise in your life.
Healthy lifestyles & eating
Date TBC
You will get lots of help to fully understand healthy eating and the importance of it. The session will also help you overcome the hurdles we can face when trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle, by creating an action plan.
