Thanks to funding from NHS England in partnership with Luton CCG and Luton Borough Council we are able to provide a wide ranging support package for carers across the region. Our Carers Wellbeing Project is full of practical support with all the elements designed by carers for carers. So we know there will be something for everyone.

The main element of the programme is a series of wellbeing workshops, all free to carers.
Learn techniques and skills that will help you feel healthy, happy and able to cope.

Choose from our range of workshops and practical help for your health, emotional & social needs. 

We will support you to join the programme, including activities for your cared-for person, to cover your caring role while you are attending the sessions. This will be all be paid for by the programme funders, Luton Borough Council.

Wellbeing workshops for unpaid carers living and working in Luton:

Empowerment
Monday 3rd December 2018
1.30pm – 4.30pm
This workshop will help you to understand the types of empowerment exercises. By looking at different techniques to help you feel more confident you will then begin to feel more empowered, which will help improve your general wellbeing.
Change management
Monday 10th December 2018
1.30pm – 4.30pm
You will learn to understand your personal reactions to changes and look at the ‘change curve’. The session will help you with barriers that stop you from embracing changes. You will finish by looking at strategies to reduce your fears.
Stress management
Monday 17th December 2018
1.30pm – 4.30pm
Full of useful and new stress management techniques this workshop will guide you to be able to use them on a daily basis. We’ll also give you an understanding of the impact of stress on your personal health.
Zentangle relaxing art
Monday 7th January 2019
1.30pm – 4.30pm
An art workshop that will introduce you to Zentangle art, which is a form of art that can help you to relax. You will produce simple artistic designs and use repetitive steps to aid relaxation.
Aboriginal art styles
Monday 14th January 2019
1.30pm – 4.30pm
We’ll look at the different Aboriginal styles of art work which is most commonly described as ‘dot painting’. You will be guided on how this form of art can also help with relaxation and will put in practice different forms of painting and art.
Stone painting
Monday 21st January 2019
1.30pm – 4.30pm
This workshop will help you use art to help you to focus and become a source of relaxation and fun. You will look at a variety of techniques to produce ‘stone art’.
Relaxation techniques
Monday 28th January 2019
1.30pm – 4.30pm
You will learn about different relaxation techniques and find the right one to suit you. Relaxation techniques are a great way to help with stress management and so should help you to start de-stressing your life.
Introduction to Meditation
Monday 4th February 2019
1.30pm – 4.30pm
This introductory  workshop will see you learning and practicing different meditation techniques. You will look at how you feel before and after to see which techniques work best for you and how you can incorporate this into your daily life.
Mindfulness
Monday 11th February 2019
1.30pm – 4.30pm
This workshop will help you to develop a positive mind set and develop coping strategies which will help with increasing our state of wellbeing. You will also experience a practical demonstration of different mindfulness theories.         
Fitness fears
Monday 18th February 2019
1.30pm – 4.30pm
We will help you understand any concerns about being more active and then will guide you to put together an action plan to help you overcome these fears.
Fitness & exercise
Monday 25th February 2019
1.30pm – 4.30pm
This workshop will help you to understand the potential drawbacks of exercise but also the physical and mental benefits of exercise. You will put together an action plan to help you incorporate more exercise in your life.
Healthy lifestyles & eating
Monday 4th March 2019
1.30pm – 4.30pm
You will get lots of help to fully understand healthy eating and the importance of it. The session will also help you overcome the hurdles we can face when trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle, by creating an action plan.

Our programme of wellbeing support has been designed by carers

We asked carers in Luton, at our regular Carer Support Group meetings, what sort of things they need help with to ensure their wellbeing was improved in practical and useful ways. With the help of our team at The Disability Resource Centre we designed 6 main elements of the programme that we are launching today:

- At the induction stage we will explain the goals and support you to join the programme, including activities for your cared-for person, to cover your caring role while you are attending the sessions.

This will be all be paid for by the programme funders, NHS England in partnership with Luton CCG and Luton Borough Council

- Day to day support to help carers with their emotional health, fitness and healthy eating

- Emotional health training programme over 12 weeks

- Fitness and healthy eating programme over 12 weeks

- Professional skills top-up training covering safeguarding, safe handling/moving and time management

- Sharing tips, learning from each other and celebrating our successes
