The Disability Resource Centre provides an independent set-up service through the Direct Payments Support Scheme, which operates throughout Luton. We can provide you with a range of support services. These include:

Initial Set-Up Service covering the first 8 weeks

Help to plan how you will manage the direct payment

• Information on implications of being an employer – this covers all aspects of becoming an employer
• Help to draw up job descriptions
• Support to interview prospective employees
• Help with paperwork
• Model Contracts of Employment – an employment contract has been drawn up by a solicitor and kept updated according to changes in legislation
• Insurance advice
• Help to identify personal assistant training needs. A comprehensive list of training providers is available for personal assistant training

Initial and Ongoing Support Service

Support covering specific initial and ongoing issues, including

• Payroll service – payroll will ensure that the correct tax and national insurance is deducted
• Access to an independent advocate if required – an independent advocate for adults with disabilities is available at the Disability Resource Centre
• Access to peer support group – an opportunity to talk with people who are managing their own care using a direct payment
