The Disability Resource Centre provides an independent set-up service through the Direct Payments Support Scheme, which operates throughout Luton. We can provide you with a range of support services. These include:
Initial Set-Up Service covering the first 8 weeks
Help to plan how you will manage the direct payment
- Information on implications of being an employer – this covers all aspects of becoming an employer
- Help to draw up job descriptions
- Support to interview prospective employees
- Help with paperwork
- Model Contracts of Employment – an employment contract has been drawn up by a solicitor and kept updated according to changes in legislation
- Insurance advice
- Help to identify personal assistant training needs. A comprehensive list of training providers is available for personal assistant training
Initial and Ongoing Support Service
Support covering specific initial and ongoing issues, including
- Payroll service – payroll will ensure that the correct tax and national insurance is deducted
- Access to an independent advocate if required – an independent advocate for adults with disabilities is available at the Disability Resource Centre
- Access to peer support group – an opportunity to talk with people who are managing their own care using a direct payment
